easy2update, a comprehensive Content Management system, comes with holistic editing and backup facilities. With enhanced security and easy GUI (Graphical User Interface) this software helps you to manage your site content in your desired format within minutes. Not just this, taking backups of your file and site is as easy as checking in a box. Thus, easy2update helps you break free from the shackles of dependence on your webmaster and thereby secure your site from unauthorized users.

System Requirements:
  Before installing Easy-site-editor, ensure that your system has the following:
 
PHP 4.1.0
Apache web server
Note: This software runs effectively on all platforms irrespective of browsers and OS type.

Installation:
  To get started with easy2update, follow the steps below:
 
Unzip the CMS folder that you have received with license
Upload the CMS folder anywhere within the site for which this is to be used
Take a note of the exact location path of the CMS folder
Type this path in the address bar of the browser you are using
  Now wait for the installation window (fig.1a) to open up automatically with three sections:

Site details -
  In this section the following information needs to be filled in to use the software effectively (Fig.1a):
 
Backup Enable: Checking it enables Edited page backup function
Site Backup Enable: Checking i enables complete site backup function
Root Path: Type in the root path of the folder in which you are unzipping the CMS folder
Root CMS Path: Type in the exact path of the CMS folder after unzipping it
Directory Not CMS Edited: Type in the name of the directories that you may not want to be edited.
File Extension: Type in the file extension for which you want editing, deletion and backup functions
File Edited in Text Area: Type the file extensions that you wish to edit in text area
Directory for Backup: Type in your chosen name for the Directory where Auto page Backup will be taken
Site Backups Directory: Type in your chosen name for the Directory where Site backup will be taken
Enable Delete Files: Checking in enables Delete action for files
Enable Delete Site Backup: Checking in enables Deletion action for site backup directory

FTP details -
  In this section the following information needs to be filled in to use the software effectively (Fig.1b):
 
FTP Server Name: Type in the sever name or the IP address of the server name of the site for which you are using the CMS
FTP User Name: Type in the FTP user name for accessing the server
FTP User Password: Type in the password for accessing the server
FTP Directory of CMS: Type in the exact path of the CMS directory in the remote server

Note: The Test FTP Connection (Fig. 1c) link tests the validity of the FTP information provided by you. After providing in all the details, click on this link and wait for the confirmation window to open up.

  After providing all the details, click on the “Save Settings” button to enable the settings.
 
Note: After installation if you want to change any of the settings options click on the “Settings” icon from the menu bar and wait for this same window to open up and follow the same steps as stated above.

  2. Accessing the Software
 
  Once the CMS is installed, you will be automatically taken to the following Login Page:
Log In :
  For enhanced security, the access to this software is password protected. As soon as you have installed the software, the following login window opens up (Fig.2a).

  Follow the steps below to get into the Home Page and start browsing the software :
 

Input the User-name

Input the Password
Click on the <Login> button
Wait for the home page window (Fig. 3a) to open up on your screen
 
Note: The default user-name and password are “admin”. You can change the username and password through 'Settings' after logging in through the default username and password.

3. Manage
  The Menu bar on top of the Home page shows the name and icon of all the links to the various destinations of the site. When logging into the software "Manage" in a sense is the homepage of the software.

  On the header you will find the following:
 
Announcements: This displays announcements regarding the updated versions of the software
  By default the listing of the files and folders that are present under the Root folder is displayed on the screen in a tabular form.

To see the files under any other folder, click on the respective folder. The files under your desired folder will appear in the table. This table has the following four columns:

 
Page name: Displays the name of the editable files (Refer Fig. 3a)
File size: Displays the size of the respective file (Refer Fig. 3a)
Last modified: Displays the date when a file was last modified (Refer Fig. 3a)

Action[s]: Functions granted for each corresponding file are as follows:

'Browse' icon allows you to navigate the files present under the folder. This icon is applicable only for folders.
'Delete' icon deletes file corresponding to the icon. To know more details about deleting refer "Delete Options" give below.
'Rename' icon allow the user to rename the corresponding file or folder
'Download' icon enables to download the file or folder in your local machine
'Edit' icon enable the user to edit the file in the editable area. To know more details about the editing refer "Editing Options" give below.
'View' allows to view the file in a pop-up window

  To make change(s) in one or more file appearing in the table go to the “Action[s]” column and choose the function and click on it to move further.
 
Note: To know how to delete files see “Delete a File” in the Help manual. To know how to edit files see “Edit a File” in the Help manual.

  Select Files/Folders: You can select multiple files and folders for the following action(s)
Move: Moves the selected file or folder from the current location to the desired location (fig. 3b)

Copy: Makes a copy of the selected file or folder to a new location (fig. 3c)

Delete: Erases the selected file or folder from the server. A pop up window will ask for your confirmation of deletion. For more details see "Delete Options" below

Find & Replace : In the selected file(s) you can search for a word and get it replaced by the new one (fig. 3d)

Download: Download multiple files and folders to download it in your local machine

 

  Other Features:

Current Location: Upload files, folders or http://www.easy2update.com/help/images at the present location you are browsing in (Refer Fig. 3e)
Create New Folder: Create any new folder where you can keep files. This folder will be created where you are currently browsing in.

Create New File: You can create any new file in the current location (Refer Fig. 3e)

Select Template : Select an already made template from the '..' button and this template will be used for the created file (Refer Fig. 3e)

Filter By: Filter the current page on the basis of folder, file, .html, .htm, .jpeg, .gif, .zip, and many more (Refer Fig. 3e)

Last Updated: Sort the current webpage on the basis of looking at the last update date (Refer Fig.3e)
4. Editing Options
 
  easy2update provides comprehensive editing tools like any other reputed editing software (MS Word etc.).
 

For editing a file follow the steps below:

 
From the link Manage, find the file you wish to edit
If the file is present under any folder, click on the respective folder and wait for the list of files to appears on the screen
Click on the edit icon against the file to be edited under the Action column
On click the following window opens (Fig. 4a)

Note: Files with extension .html or .html will open in an editable area, .jsp or .php in text area and http://www.easy2update.com/help/images will open up in image editor. User can change the following scopes from "Settings" available in the navigation panel.
  The icons on the top of the page are the editing tools. Here is a video tour with the overview of tools:

  Formatting helps you to do the following:

Select Tag for a Current Element

Move the Tag Selector menu from the bottom of the page to the top

At the end of the page you can see five tabs which allows the following actions(s):
Save Draft : Save the edited file as a draft in a temporary file but it will not be saved in the server(Refer Fig. 4a)
Save & Continue: Changes are saved in the server and user can continue working on the same interface

Save & Exit: Changes are saved in the server and user returns to the previous page (Refer Fig. 4a)

Save As : Save the file with a different name (Refer Fig.4a)

Close: Closes the editing interface

Delete Options
 
  easy2update allows you to delete files individually as well as the unwanted backups taken.
 

For deleting a file follow the steps below:

 
Click on the Folder containing the file you want to delete
Wait till all the files in the selected folder appear on the Table
Click on the “Delete” icon against the file to be deleted
On click a Dialogue Box appears to confirm the delete action
Click “OK” button to confirm the delete action (fig. 4b)

5. Backup Facilities
Auto Page Backup :
  To enable auto page backup functionality, click on the settings icon visible on the top of the page. Now wait for this window (fig. 5a) to open up on your screen:

  Just follow the steps below:
 
Click on the check in button to the right of “Backup Enable” option.
Scroll down and click on “Save Settings” button
  To view Auto page Backup of the pages you have edited, go to “Auto Page Backup” icon visible on the top of the page. On clicking, this icon opens the following window (fig. 5b):

  This page lists the following:
 
Backup Name: Path where the backup file is saved.
No. Of files: No. of edited versions of the same file kept.
Total Size: Total size of the directory containing the various edited versions of a file
  To perform further actions on the backup files listed here go to the “View List ” option in the extreme right corresponding to each Backup page name. On clicking “View List ”, the following window appears on your screen (fig. 5c):

  Corresponding to each file name you will find three icons representing the following actions respectively:
 

View: On click, the last modified version of the respective file opens.

Restore: On click, the following window will open with a dialogue box (fig. 5d)

  Click on “Ok” to restore the file to its original location or “Cancel” to reject the action.

The next window (fig. 5e) that opens confirms that this backup file replaced the original file in the respective location

  Delete: On click, the following window pops up (fig. 5f)

  Now, click on “OK” to confirm delete action and wait for the following window (fig. 5g) to open up or “Cancel” to reject the action.
 
Note: The windows confirming every action performed contains a link “<< Back to Auto Pages Backup”. Click on this link to go back to the Auto pages Backup page for some other action.
Site Backup :
  Site Backup function allows you to take automatic backup of all those pages of the site which were edited even once. To enable Site backup functionality, click on the settings icon visible on the top of the page.
In the settings window that pops up, just follow the steps below:
 
Click on the check in button to the right of “Site Backup Enable” option.
Scroll down and click on “Save Settings” button
  To view Site Backup of the pages you have edited, go to “Site Backup” icon visible on the top of the page. On clicking, this icon opens the following window (fig. 5g).

  This window displays the following:
 
Date and time when Backup of the site was taken from time to time
Total size of the backup folder
  On the extreme right, the “Action” column allows you to perform the following actions:
 
Restore
Delete
Download
Mail
Remote Backup
  Restore: This allows you to restore a previous version of the site to its original location and replace the existing version. To perform this action, click on the “Restore” icon under the Action column and wait for this window to open up on your screen (fig. 5h)

  Delete: This allows you to delete the backup folders of the site. To perform this action click on the “Delete” icon under the Action column and wait for this window to open up on your screen (fig. 5i).

  Click on “Ok” in the dialogue box to confirm the action and wait for the confirmation window to pop up
  Download: This allows you to download backup folders of the site. To perform this action click on the “Download” icon under the Action column and wait for this window to open up on your screen (fig. 5j).

  Click on “Save” in the dialogue box to confirm the action and wait for the confirmation window to pop up
  Mail: This allows you to mail the backup folders of the site to any mail id. To perform this action click on the “Mail” icon under the Action column and wait for this window to open up on your screen (fig. 5k).

  In the 'From' write your mail id and in 'To' mention the ID of the person to whom you want to sent. Click 'Send' to perform the action.
  Remote Backup: This allows you to send a backup of the site to any remote server. The backup file will reach the remote server in a zip file. To perform this action click on the “Remote Backup ” icon under the Action column and wait for this window to open up on your screen (fig. 5l).

  Mention the 'Host' name with proper 'username' and 'Password'. Click 'Submit' to perform the action.
Note: By checking on the “Site Backup enable” option on the settings page you are allowing to take automatic backup of the pages that are edited once or more. But in case you want to take the backup of the whole site including even those pages which you haven't edited so far but might edit in the future, just follow the steps below:
6. Settings
General Settings : It allows you to allot general features to your website . For more details please look at the Installation Guide.
Change Password :
  At any point of time while using easy2update, you can change your password for enhanced security.

To change password follow the steps below:

 
Click on the “Change Password” icon on the menu-bar at the top of every page

Wait for the following window to open (Fig. 6a)

Now, do the following:

 

Type in the old password

Type in the new password

Type in the new password for confirmation

Click on the <Submit> button and wait for the confirmation window (Fig. 6b) to open up

Note: To check the change in password, click on “Logout” and login again.
